'Our Tiny Veg Growers' Club

Welcome to 'Our Tiny Veg Growers' Club page.

Launch of our new Club

On The Verge's 'Our Tiny Veg Growers'  was launched in wind and rain on June 16th 2024 at Woodlands Avenue Community Garden in Talgarth. Our volunteers and new club members put together two raised beds and trellis, filled them with soil, planted a mix of vegetables, fruits and flowers, tracked down bugs, had snacks and took cover in the hedge for the worst of the downpours!

 Success at Woodlands Community Garden

The On The Verge team at Woodlands Avenue Community Garden, Talgarth has been working tirelessly to inspire and educate the next generation of gardeners through their "Our Tiny Veg Growers" program. This unique gardening club for children has not only created a space for young people to learn the art of organic farming but also fostered a deeper understanding of where our food comes from and the importance of working harmoniously with nature.

Throughout the year, the children of Our Tiny Veg Growers Club have been actively involved in cultivating a variety of organic produce. Under the expert guidance of the On The Verge team, the young gardeners have gained hands-on experience in planting, caring for, and harvesting crops. Their enthusiasm and commitment have been nothing short of remarkable, and their achievements are a testament to the power of community-led education.

"It's been amazing to see the children grow alongside their crops," said Jane White, group leader of Our Tiny Veg Growers. "They’ve not only learned valuable skills but have also developed a real appreciation for nature and how food is produced. Watching their excitement when they harvest what they've grown is incredibly rewarding, and I’m confident that this experience will stay with them for years to come."

The garden’s open day on 1st September 2024 proved to be a resounding success, raising over £60 through various fundraising activities. This money is reinvested into the garden project, ensuring the children have the necessary tools, seeds, and resources to continue growing next year. The funds will also help sustain the community garden as a vibrant educational hub for future generations.

The On The Verge team is incredibly proud of all the hard work the children put in throughout the year. Their dedication and enthusiasm have brought the garden to life, and the team is excited to see what new crops and ideas will blossom in the coming year. The future of Woodlands Avenue Community Garden is brighter than ever, thanks to the passion of these young gardeners and the unwavering support of On The Verge.
